2008 Super Bowl Commercials Fail to Amaze

2008 E*TRADE Super Bowl Commercial - MarcomToday.comI spent most of the day monitoring the media’s reaction to last night’s Super Bowl and it appears we’re of almost one accord—they were mostly blah. I also spent time chatting with others and most people who watched the entire Super Bowl citied one or two commercials that were “decent” to “funny.”

So was this money well spent? Perhaps yes, perhaps no.

At a cost of $90,000 per second, the heat is really on advertisers.

Did you have a favorite Super Bowl commercial? In my mind, E*TRADE ran away with the show. Their two “baby trader” spots were cute and sparked emotion.

Here are the two E*TRADE commercials:

On the other side of the coin, I’d say the SalesGenie.com ads were a wash, again. The Doritos ad might have been mildly entertaining at another time, but the ad just felt “off” to me.

Did you watch the Super Bowl ads? If so, what is your opinion on the best and worst of this year’s ad slate? Do you think any of the ads helped bring top-of-mind awareness to consumers?
